Steve Hogan is the CEO at Florida Citrus Sports, which is hosting two of the bowl games. He said the bowl games will also mean more exposure for Orlando and Central Florida. โEverybody when they go to these bowl games, they go to have fun,โ Brown said. Businesses take another financial hit after Florida Classic game canceled
ORLANDO, Fla. โ Businesses near Camping World Stadium, many of which have already been struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic, are suffering another financial hit this weekend because the Florida Classic game is canceled because of COVID-19. The Florida Classic is the biggest rivalry game each year and one of the largest athletic fundraisers between Florida A&M University and Bethune Cookman University. Many businesses say theyโre trying to make ends meet since the week-long events for the Florida Classic are going virtual, but it has been tough. Florida Classic event organizers told News 6 there were 55,730 at the classic game last year and the Orange County Comptrollerโs Office said last year the game brought in $28 million in economic impact. Battle of the Bands shifts to virtual event
Nick Solomon said he knows this year things will be different with the classic events going fully virtual due to the pandemic. There are virtual events happening this Tuesday-Saturday as part of the Florida Classic week. Among those are events are like a diversity career fair, a virtual battle of the bands, a pep rally and more. FAMU President Dr. Larry Robinson said the donations are welcomed and heโs looking forward to the virtual events this year. Driver killed in crash near Camping World Stadium, police say
ORLANDO, Fla. โ One person was killed Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash near Camping World Stadium in Orlando, according to police. Orlando police responded to the crash at 4:29 p.m. near the intersection of Rio Grande Avenue and South Street. One of the vehicles over turned, ejecting the driver, police said. The person was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The intersection remains closed as of 5:30 p.m. for the crash investigation.
Orlando to host 3 bowl games this season
ORLANDO, Fla. โ The sixth-annual Cure Bowl game will happen in Orlando this December despite the pandemic but with some changes. The bowl game will be played at Camping World Stadium on Dec. 26 at noon. Due to the pandemic, itโs unclear if fans will be able to attend the Cure Bowl. If fans are permitted, organizers will work with ESPN events, Orlando and Camping World to follow all COVID-19 precautions. There are two other bowl games planned in Orlando this season, the Cheez It Bowl on Dec. 29 and the VRBO Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1.
70,000 pounds of food donated by local organization at Camping World Stadium
ORLANDO, Fla. โ Dozens of cars lined up outside Camping World Stadium on Wednesday to pick up free food donated by One Heart for Women and Children. King said itโs been difficult the last few months at home and is currently driving for Uber to put some food on the table for her family. Angel Rosa and his wife showed up to Camping World Stadium hours before the distribution. A blessing is a blessing,โ Rosa said. Last month, One Heart for Women and Children handed out 50,000 pounds of food to residents at Church in the Son.
New COVID-19 testing site set to open at Camping World Stadium
ORLANDO, Fla. A new COVID-19 mobile testing site is opening in Orlando next week, according to a news release from the city. Officials with the City of Orlando announced the new drive-thru site will open at Camping World Stadium on Wednesday and will be pedestrian-accessible. The site will become the latest mobile testing site to open in Orlando to help increase testing within city neighborhoods. The mobile sites operate on Wednesdays and rotate to new locations each week, according to the release. Other COVID-19 testing sites in Central Florida can be found using this interactive map.

Orlando mayor says local coronavirus situation is improving
ORLANDO, Fla. Officials are reporting a recent drop in positive coronavirus cases as the city of Orlando resumed testing at its mobile site this week. On Wednesday, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer toured the location outside Camping World Stadium. He said the need for extensive testing remains, but personal precautions, like wearing masks, have had a positive effect. Im not actually aware of any complaints weve had in the city about business that havent been compliant. Dyer said. Orlando's mobile testing site is open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. by appointment, although walk-ups will be accepted if space is available.

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. โ Serving as a testing site, Camping World Stadium is playing a large role in Orlando's battle against coronavirus. Florida Citrus Sports just made a $5,000 donation to the Central Florida Diaper Bank and another in Floridaโs Panhandle. It was Florida Citrus Sports' way of thanking the coach for videoconferencing with FCS members. Lending a hand to the diaper banks is not all Florida Citrus Sports is doing. Hogan tells News 6 that bringing football games to Central Florida is one part of FCSโ mission.
Alabama vs. Michigan game draws 60,000 to Central Florida
ORLANDO, Fla. โ Nearly 60,000 people attended the Citrus Bowl at Camping World Stadium on New Yearโs Day, according to Florida Citrus Sports. Organizers said Alabama and Michigan fans will collectively spend millions of dollars during their visit to Central Florida. John Hamin said he made $1,000 each day during the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) held at Camping World Stadium's Tinker Field in November. โIt was crazy.โHamin said he has seen a steady rise in money-making parking opportunities correlated with bigger, more frequent events at Camping World Stadium. Besides the two bowl games and EDC, Camping World hosted Monster Jam, Wrestlemania and the NFL Pro-Bowl in 2019.
Gov. Scott welcomes Pro Bowl to Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. โ The NFL is reportedly moving its Pro Bowl game to Orlando. The NFL has not officially released the Pro Bowl location, but Florida Gov. The Pro Bowl has traditionally been played in Hawaii. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer told News 6 last month that the Pro Bowl would bring thousands of people to the city and benefit the local economy. The Camping World Stadium already hosts Orlando City Soccer Club, college bowl games and will host next year's Wrestlemania.
