The company's Celebrity Cruises subsidiary said Friday that its Celebrity Millennium ship will relaunch on June 5 from St. Maarten. With the Caribbean such a popular destination, โItโs not entirely surprising to see both Celebrity and Royal Caribbean finding a way to return to the region,โ said Colleen McDaniel, editor or Cruise Critic, a website that reviews cruises. Shares of Miami-based Royal Caribbean rose more than 2% Friday.

Cruises out of Port Canaveral could return in July
PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. โ Disney, Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean all announced this month the companies will wait even longer to restart, Port Canaveral officials now predict cruises might return in July. Port Canaveral commissioners approved a revised port budget to update its losses to $43 million. Fortunately, with savings built up from record years before coronavirus, Port Canaveral CEO Captain John Murray is confident the port will outlast the pandemic even all the way into next year. Port officials said it is most likely the beginning of the restart will feature one ship per cruise line and each ship will operate at 50% capacity. The first cruises will be crew members only, the next set of cruises will be volunteers, all before regular passengers can get a ticket.
Grandfather who held toddler before fatal cruise ship fall pleads guilty
ORLANDO, Fla. โ The grandfather of a 1-year-old girl who died after falling 150 feet from a cruise ship has pleaded guilty to a charge of negligent homicide. Investigators say Salvatore Anello was holding Chloe Wiegand when she fell from Royal Caribbeanโs Freedom of the Seas cruise ship last July. | President Trump returning to Central Florida]Authorities say Anello rested the little girl against an open window while the ship was docked in Puerto Rico, causing her to fall. Anello told investigators he believed the window was closed and that Wiegand slipped from his hands. Anelloโs attorneys say he will not serve any prison time but will serve probation.

Carnival announces layoffs and furloughs as cruise industry works to stay afloat
MIAMI, Fla. โ Carnival Corp. will implement layoffs, furloughs, reduced workweeks and salary reductions across the company, the Miami-based company announced Thursday. Itโs the latest move in hopes of keeping the cruise industry financially afloat after it was rocked by the coronavirus pandemic, and it follows similar announcements by other lines. The report says that Carnival had about 120,000 workers worldwide before the start of the coronavirus outbreak and that furloughed employees could potentially return when cruising resumes. โTaking these extremely difficult employee actions involving our highly dedicated workforce is a very tough thing to do. Norwegian Cruise Line has furloughed 20% of its staff and has warned that it could face bankruptcy.
Coronavirus: Royal Caribbean taking temperature of all cruise passengers before setting sail
If a guestโs temperature is above 100.4ยฐF (38ยฐ C), the passenger and their party will undergo a secondary health screening, according to the cruise line. Carnival cruise ships collide in Cozumel
COZUMEL โ A Carnival Cruise Line ship named Carnival Glory collided with the Carnival Legend Friday, then narrowly missed a Royal Caribbean ship. Passengers aboard a nearby Royal Caribbean ship watched in shock as the stern of the Carnival Glory drifted into the pointed bow of the Carnival Legend. โCarnival Glory just crashed into Carnival Legend and almost crashed into Oasis of the Seas at the Cozumel cruise port,โ Bruin said on the video. Parents of toddler who fell to her death sue Royal Caribbean
The Indiana parents of a toddler who plunged through an open widow on a cruise ship in Puerto Rico have filed a lawsuit against Royal Caribbean Cruises. The parents accuse the company of negligence in Chloe Wiegandโs death by allowing a window to be opened in July. The girlโs grandfather, Salvatore Anello, has been charged in Puerto Rico with negligent homicide. Anello insists heโs colorblind and didnโt know the 11th-floor window was open. He says he believed he was lifting the girl so she could bang on the glass like at a hockey game.
