COCOA, Fla. – A 41-year-old man from Cocoa died after a crash early Friday on State Road 520 in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The FHP said the crash occurred under the overpass to I-95 as a pickup truck in the inside lane of S.R. 520 was stopped at a red light. The Cocoa man was traveling eastbound on a motorcycle behind the truck in the same lane, troopers said.

According to a crash report, the Cocoa man failed to stop the motorcycle, causing it to strike the rear of the pickup truck. The man was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead, while the driver of the pickup — a 48-year-old St. Cloud man — was uninjured and remained on scene, troopers said. Troopers believe the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet in the crash.

S.R. 520 east was blocked in the area, but the roadway was later reopened. The crash is still being investigated, according to FHP.

The crash comes a day after a motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run on S.R. 520 in nearby Orange County. The driver, who ran away after the wreck, has not yet been located, officials said.
