Fatal crash shuts down Interstate 95 in Brevard County (FDOT)

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 23-year-old woman from Selma, North Carolina, was killed in a crash early Saturday on Interstate 95 in Brevard County that forced the closure of all southbound lanes near Cocoa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 4:20 a.m. in the area of mile marker 207, between State Road 528 and Port St. John Parkway, troopers said.

According to a crash report, the North Carolina woman was driving a sedan in the center southbound lane when the vehicle veered into the left side of a boat trailer being hauled by a pickup truck in the outside lane.

As the sedan rotated and began to overturn, the woman was ejected from her car, landing in the outside lane, the report states. She was then struck by an SUV, troopers said, adding she had not worn a seat belt in the crash.

The North Carolina woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states. The 33-year-old Rockledge woman who drove the SUV was not injured and remained at the scene, with the same said for the two occupants of the pickup truck — a 28-year-old Cocoa man in the driver’s seat and a 29-year-old Titusville man as passenger — according to troopers.

Traffic cameras at the scene showed all southbound traffic being directed off of the interstate, a complete roadblock.

At last check, the roadway had been reopened.
