ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers are looking for a driver who allegedly ran away from the scene of a crash that killed a motorcyclist early Saturday in Orange County.
The crash occurred around 2:41 a.m. at the intersection of West Oak Ridge Road and South John Young Parkway, troopers said.
A sedan heading westbound in the inside lane of West Oak Ridge Road stopped for a red light within the intersection and in the direct path of the motorcyclist, a 27-year-old Altamonte Springs man who was traveling northbound in the center lane of John Young Parkway, an FHP crash report states.
The front of the motorcycle struck the left rear of the sedan, causing the Altamonte Springs man to be thrown from the bike, according to the report. The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, FHP said, adding it was unknown whether he was wearing a helmet during the crash.
Troopers believe the driver of the sedan exited the vehicle after the crash and ran away.
Arriving to the scene, troopers were met with a 46-year-old Ocoee woman who they said was a passenger in the sedan, was uninjured in the crash and hadn’t worn a seat belt when it happened. Though troopers interviewed the woman, it was still under investigation at the time of this report who the sedan’s driver was during the crash, according to FHP, which otherwise described the alleged driver as a Black male who was wearing a black shirt, tan pants and white shoes.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call FHP at 407-737-2213, or Crimeline at 800-423-8477 to remain anonymous.
