Man faces charges in Cocoa hit-and-run that killed 4-year-old boy, seriously injured girl

COCOA, Fla. – A 62-year-old man faces several charges related to a hit-and-run crash that killed a 4-year-old boy and seriously injured a 14-year-old girl last month, according to Cocoa police.

Police said around 9 p.m. on May 26, officers responded to a report of a crash involving two pedestrians at State Road 520 and Washington Avenue.

According to a news release, police found two children, ages 4 and 14, in the road suffering from serious injuries. Officers said the driver of a pickup truck that hit the children fled the area after the crash.

Witnesses told police that the children were crossing the highway when they were hit.

Police said that the 4-year-old died two days after the crash and the 14-year-old is recovering, but “will have lifelong impacts from her injuries.”

According to the release, the driver – identified as Kenneth McGhee – contacted police about 15 minutes after the crash to report his involvement.

Police said McGhee turned himself in on Friday and was boked in the the Brevard County jail. He was later released on $30,000 bond.

According to the release, McGhee faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident with a death and leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.
