Orlando man accused of crashing into police cruiser while driving drunk in Polk County

DAVENPORT, Fla. – An Orlando man was arrested Tuesday morning after crashing into a police cruiser while driving under the influence, according to the Davenport Police Department.

Jose Enrique Hernandez-Gonazalez, 21, was in a pickup driving in the wrong lane of traffic on South Boulevard in Davenport around 1:35 a.m. when he slammed into a Davenport police cruiser and drove off, according to a news release.

Polk County deputies later located and arrested Hernandez-Gonazalez.

Hernandez-Gonazalez told police he struck “something hard” but did not stop because he was not aware of what he hit, according to investigators. He also admitted to officers that he had been drinking at a family party, police said.

Hernandez-Gonazalez faces charges of a DUI, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage and operating a motor vehicle with no driver’s license.
