ORLANDO, Fla. – Scotland Hamlin, an emergency medical technician (EMT) and field training officer with American Medical Response (AMR) in Orlando, was named one of 33 Global Medical Response (GMR) Stars of Life.
The Stars of Life program honors EMS first responders who have completed extraordinary acts of service for their patients, colleagues, communities or the EMS profession. Honorees from across the country will be recognized at the American Ambulance Association (AAA) Stars of Life Awards Ceremony, in Washington, D.C. from Nov. 10-13.
“This award is among the highest honors an EMS professional can receive,” said Christopher Kennison, operations manager for American Medical Response Orlando. “Scotland’s dedication to patient care is unlike anything I’ve seen before. He’s always willing to help his coworkers and patients, even on his day off.”
Hamlin was nominated for, while off-duty, stopping to assist two fellow AMR first responders restrain a combative patient who was trying to remove themselves from a stretcher.
Hamlin says he is excited to be honored as one of the 2024 Stars of Life.
“This is a distinction I accept with gratitude,” Hamlin said. “I work with great people, so if there’s ever a time someone needs my help, patient or coworker alike, and I’m available to assist — I’m going to do everything I can to be there for them.”
