UPDATE: Upon arrival to the intersection, engineering crews were actively working on the traffic signal. Within 10 minutes of our live stream, the traffic signal was fully functioning and traffic was moving safely.
Traffic congestion and safety concerns remain hot topics for local communities, especially when vital infrastructure upgrades seem stalled. Today, we’re responding to a viewer’s email highlighting an issue at Chickasaw Trail and Millinockett Lane, where a new traffic light has been installed but remains non-operational.
The email reads, “We are a community waiting for a traffic light that’s been installed for about a month. And before that, we have been waiting two years. Will it be too much to ask for it to be working as soon as possible before another accident happens?”
The frustration and concern in this message echo the sentiment of many residents who face unsafe intersections daily.
In response, we’re taking Results-1 to the intersection today for a live stream to observe the current traffic flow and any potential hazards. We’ll speak with drivers and pedestrians about their experiences and attempt to uncover why the light isn’t operational.
While we’ll be seeking official answers, typical reasons for delays in activating new traffic lights include:
- Technical setup: Calibration or final checks of electrical systems.
- Coordination with utilities: Ensuring the light integrates with surrounding infrastructure.
- Government approvals: Waiting for green lights (pun intended) from city or county officials.
As this story unfolds, we invite you to share your thoughts and experiences. Have you encountered delays like this in your neighborhood? What do you think should be prioritized to improve road safety?
