ORLANDO, Fla. – News 6 traffic safety expert Trooper Steve Montiero answers viewer questions about the rules of the road, helping Orlando-area residents become better drivers by being better educated.
Trooper Steve was recently asked, “I received a tint ticket. I replaced with legal tint. How to I comply with the ticket?”
“A window tint violation citation is a non-moving violation that carries no points against your driver’s license. However, it does require prompt attention to avoid further consequences, including a potential driver’s license suspension,” Trooper Steve said.
If you’ve been cited for improper window tint, Trooper Steve says you should follow these steps to resolve the issue:
- Correct the tint: Within 30 days of receiving the citation, ensure your vehicle’s window tint complies with state regulations.
- Obtain endorsement: After correcting the tint, have a sworn law-enforcement officer inspect the vehicle and endorse the bottom of your citation.
- Submit to the clerk: Take the endorsed citation to the clerk of the court in your county. This endorsement demonstrates your compliance and qualifies you for a reduced fine.
- Avoid penalties: Failing to correct the tint and resolve the citation within 30 days will result in the suspension of your driver’s license, which can lead to additional fines and complications.
“Promptly addressing a tint violation ensures you stay compliant with the law and avoid unnecessary penalties,” he said. “If you’re unsure about tint regulations, consult a professional to ensure your vehicle meets legal standards.”
