OCALA, Fla. – A man on foot along Interstate 75 in Ocala was struck by a car and killed on Saturday while “darting in and out of northbound traffic,” according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 9:23 p.m. about a mile north of U.S. 27, where the 44-year-old Brooker man had parked his vehicle on the east paved emergency lane, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, witnesses said several vehicles had to swerve to avoid striking the man. A sedan that was unable to avoid the man struck him with its right-front section, the report states.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue, troopers said, adding none of the sedan’s three occupants were injured in the crash.
