SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – An Orlando man is dead and two children are among five others hurt after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 4 in Seminole County early Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 3:57 a.m. in the area of mile marker 94, near exits to State Road 434 in Wekiwa Springs.

According an an FHP crash report, the wreck involved a 2012 Honda Accord, a 2025 Honda Odyssey and a 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer.

The Accord — driven by a 36-year-old Orlando man — was traveling eastbound in the westbound center lane as the Odyssey traveled westbound in the same lane, the report states. The front of the Accord struck the front of the Odyssey as a result, causing the Accord to strike the median guardrail while the Odyssey then entered the outside lane and was struck by the front of the tractor-trailer, according to the report.

The Orlando man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, troopers said, adding it was unknown at the time of this report whether he was wearing a seat belt during the crash.

The Odyssey was carrying five occupants, according to the report. FHP identified them as a 35-year-old man driving the van with four passengers — a 59-year-old woman, a 33-year-old woman, a 1-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl — all from Michigan. The man and both of the women suffered serious injuries in the crash while the two children suffered minor injuries, troopers said, adding all except for the 33-year-old woman were wearing seat belts or child restraints during the crash.

In the tractor-trailer, the 58-year-old Port Orange man behind the wheel was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene, according to FHP.

The westbound lanes were closed as far north as mile marker 98 (Lake Mary Boulevard), according to Florida 511, where traffic was seen being redirected off of I-4 for several hours. At last check, westbound traffic appeared to be flowing again.

FHP is still investigating.
