MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 76-year-old Ocala man was killed and a 45-year-old Ocala man was injured Tuesday night in a hit-and-run crash in Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The fatal wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. on SW 27 Circle, just north of SW 137 Loop.

The FHP said an SUV, possibly a gray or silver Jeep Cherokee, was southbound on SW 27 Circle when the driver failed to negotiate a curve and struck the men, who were performing maintenance on a disabled dump truck in the grass shoulder of the roadway.

The men were taken to the hospital, where the 76-year-old was pronounced dead, according to an FHP crash report.
