ORLANDO, Fla. – Two people are dead after a car crash Friday morning in Orlando that ended in a nearby retention pond.
The crash, which involved a pedestrian, forced the closure of John Young Parkway, but all lanes were reopened around noon.
According to Orlando police, officers responded to the 900 block of South John Young Parkway just after 7 a.m. to a crash involving one car and one pedestrian.
The driver, whose car was submerged in the retention pond, and the pedestrian involved in this crash died. No one else was injured.
“Well, shocking. Very shocked. I’ve never seen anything like that before. Scary. You know?” neighbor Brian Young said after seeing the body on the ground.

“It makes me kind of curious about how it happened and wondering what led to those moments,” said Michael Belisaire, who lives nearby. “Was it like, for example, a seizure or something that happened while he was driving, or something medically related that happened?”
Young, who sees people walking along the road frequently, would like to see pedestrian improvements made to avoid another tragedy.
“I don’t know if it has enough lighting because at night it does get kind of dim, and they have those trees in the middle. It’s no type of reflection off the trees to let people know, and I don’t think it’s enough crosswalks,” he said.
This is a developing story and will be updated with more information as we receive it.
