MELBOURNE, Fla. – A child was airlifted to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children after a crash involving their electric dirt bike and a vehicle in Melbourne on Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release.
Melbourne police said they responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Wickham Road and Lake Washington Road around 4:17 p.m.

According to the release, the crash involved a Chrysler van and an electric dirt bike. The driver of the electric dirt bike, a child, sustained serious bodily injuries.

Officials said that due to the injuries suffered, emergency responders decided to airlift the child to Orlando.
According to the release, an initial investigation shows the electric dirt bike was traveling west on Lake Washington Road, just west of Wickham Road. The Chrysler van was exiting a parking lot on the northwest corner of the intersection and attempted to travel eastbound on Lake Washington Road.
The van pulled out in front of the electric dirt bike, causing the bike to strike the driver’s side of the van.
All parties involved appear to be accounted for, and police said that alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
