Dashcam video from a driver on I-95 shows the plane coming down quickly toward the southbound lanes and hit the car twice before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Toyota, a 57-year-old Melbourne woman, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The pilot, a 27-year-old Orlando man, was uninjured.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the pilot reported engine issues before attempting the emergency landing.

Bernard and Annie Wigley were traveling in the opposite direction with their daughter when they noticed lights dropping rapidly from the sky.

“It was just beginning to get dark, so the lights were obvious,” Bernard Wigley said. “I saw the lights coming from the east… but I couldn’t recognize them.”

His wife, Annie, said she immediately realized the aircraft was in distress.

“It was going to crash because it was too low,” she said. “It was just above the cars… and it was coming pretty quickly.”

The family pulled over and stopped directly across from the crash site. Annie, a nurse, climbed over the interstate median to reach the scene.

“We immediately jumped out and ran over to see who needed help,” she said. “Every minute counts when people are injured.”

The driver of the Camry was “definitely a little dazed,” Annie said, adding that the woman initially believed a semi-truck had hit her. Authorities say the driver and both pilots suffered only minor injuries.

Witnesses said they feared the worst when they ran toward the wreckage.

“I was thinking it was going to be so much worse than what it was… I thought it was going to be devastation,” Annie said.

Bernard described the scene as resembling a disaster movie.

“It seemed almost like a movie,” he said. “When you see a tragedy on the highways… 15-car collisions and fire all over the place… that could have easily happened.”

Despite the impact, the Wigleys said they believe something greater prevented a tragedy.

“I only have one word,” Annie said. “Miracle.”

The FAA is leading the investigation into the airplane incident while the Florida Highway Patrol will investigate the vehicle crash.

This was the second plane crash in Central Florida on Monday after a Cessna 172 crash-landed on Jacobs Road in DeLand, injuring two people onboard.
