Florida troopers say driver fled the scene

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A toll camera fell onto State Road 408 near Pine Hills on Wednesday during a crash involving a dump truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred just before 7 a.m. in the westbound lanes near mile marker 6. People were seen attending to the object, and the rightmost lane was closed at the time of this report.

Troopers said the dump truck, light-colored with a darker bed, was traveling west in the outside center lane, just east of North Pine Hills Road.

The truck’s dump bed was lifted and failed to clear the overhead bridge as it attempted to drive under the toll lane, according to troopers.

As a result, the bed struck the overhead bridge and the toll cameras, sensors and mount, causing the toll camera to fall onto the roadway, the FHP said.

The driver of the dump truck did not remain at the scene, according to FHP.

Troopers are asking anyone with information to contact FHP or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS.

The crash remains under investigation.
