Florida firefighter arrested on DUI charge was going over 100 mph in residential area, deputies say

GULFPORT, Fla. – A 24-year-old off-duty Florida firefighter was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence while traveling 100 mph through a residential area.

Scott Miller, a Gulfport firefighter, was arrested on one count of DUI.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, around 1 a.m., deputies observed Miller driving his Ford F-150 recklessly through a residential area. Deputies said Miller reached speeds over 100 mph.

According to the sheriff’s office, Miller exhibited multiple indicators of impairment, including the distinct odor of alcohol and bloodshot, glassy eyes.

Miller refused to perform a field sobriety test and declined to provide a breath sample, officials said.

Miller was arrested and taken to the Pinellas County Jail.

The city of Gulfport said Miller, who has been employed with the department since April 2023, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation following his arrest.
