Polk County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy arrested on DUI charge
A Polk County Sheriff’s Office detention deputy was arrested Saturday on a charge of DUI. Michaela Butler, 25, was arrested in unincorporated Arcadia by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office after she registered a blood alcohol level of 0.09, above the legal limit of 0.08. There was also a cooler with several cans of opened and unopened beer in it, the sheriff’s office said. Butler was arrested and booked into the DeSoto County Jail. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said Butler, who was hired as a dual-certified detention deputy sheriff in 2019 and was assigned to the Central County Jail, is currently suspended pending termination proceedings.

DUI driver going wrong way crashes into another vehicle, troopers say
SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – A driver in Sumter County accused of driving under the influence crashed into another car after veering into traffic heading in the opposite direction, according to the Florida Highway Patrol crash report. According to the crash report, the sedan crashed nearly head-on with another sedan driven by a 24-year-old man. James was later arrested by FHP troopers for DUI with serious injury. When he was booked into the Sumter County Jail about two hours after the crash, his blood alcohol content was .212, according to the report.

Polk County educator accused of hitting fence during DUI crash
POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Polk County Public Schools employee crashed her pickup truck and was arrested for driving under the influence, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies responded to Lake Mabel Loop Road around 4:03 p.m. Sunday where a black Chevrolet Silverado was crashed into a barbed wire fence. Following a field sobriety test, Steele was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail. Deputies also collected two breath samples that read .183 and .178 grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath. “Thankfully, this was not a serious crash, but the issue of driving while impaired is still a very serious problem.”According to the sheriff’s office, Steele is currently employed by Polk County schools in the curriculum and instruction department as a social science coach.

Polk County middle school teacher accused of trying to drive while intoxicated
Brandy Reinert is facing a DUI charge after deputies say they caught her smoking marijuana in the driver's seat of her vehicle. POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A middle school teacher is now facing charges after Polk County deputies say they found her intoxicated behind the wheel. Authorities say the 40-year-old was sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle smoking what appeared to be marijuana. After testing Reinert’s cigarette, deputies say they confirmed Reinert was smoking marijuana. Deputies say she has previously been arrested on charges of armed robbery and false imprisonment.
