DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 24-year-old Wednesday night, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.
Police said Gerald L. Thomas was arrested Friday in the crash that happened on South Nova Road near Bellevue Avenue. The department said it was searching for two people in the crash, though a second arrest has not been made.

Police said Q’ueshawn Emmanuel Jones was crossing the intersection when a vehicle, believed to be a gray or dark gray BMW sedan, hit him and drove off.
Someone nearby called 911 to report the hit-and-run when they saw Jones on the side of the road, the department said.
Police said the department received a call on Thursday from a man who wanted to provide information in the crash. According to a charging affidavit, police were told by the man that he went to Thomas’ house and saw a vehicle in the backyard with damage to the hood, front bumper and windshield.
The man’s mother, Patricia Jones, called the hit-and-run driver “evil.”
“Y’all hit my baby, and y’all left him there, and he’s gone — and he’s never coming back,” she said. “He’s never getting back up. He’s never coming back home. He’s never ... I can’t see my baby no more, and he did not deserve that. He didn’t.”
Thomas faces a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death or personal injuries.
