BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – “Hold on to your hats!”
That’s how the National Weather Service began its severe weather advisory for Brevard County Tuesday.
Residents were advised to secure loose and lightweight objects as wind gusts between 35-45 mph were expected. The wind was the reason NASA and SpaceX scrubbed the overnight launch of the PACE satellite until Thursday.
The National Weather Service also said residents should expect 6-12 foot surf Tuesday.
Surfer Evan Dearaujo braved the water at the Cocoa Beach Pier.
“Being out here since 9, you know, you get tired out,” Dearaujo said. “Your back starts hurting; your shoulder starts hurting.”
The NWS said the rip current risk will remain high for the next couple of days.
Dearaujo offered his advice to other who may be thinking of getting in the water.
“Pace yourself,” he said. “Know your limits.”
