21-year-old injured in shooting at Orange City apartment complex

Police said shooting happened at the Grandville apartments

ORANGE CITY, Fla. – A 21-year-old suffered non-life-threatening injuries at a Volusia County apartment complex on Saturday, according to a news release.

Orange City police said they responded to the Grandville apartments on Saxon Avenue around 11:24 a.m. in reference to a person being shot.

According to the release, “21-year-old Gabriel Couso, of Deltona Florida, met subjects, apparently known to him, in the parking lot of Grandville apartments regarding firearms.”

Police said Couso and the others involved got into an altercation resulting in Couso being shot in the abdomen. The subjects involved then left the scene.

According to the release, Couso was transported to Central Florida Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said that area law enforcement agencies were provided a suspect and vehicle description and a short time later, Daytona Beach police observed the vehicle and pulled it over.

“A 17-year-old male in the vehicle was identified as being involved with the aforementioned shooting and was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm by a person under 21 years of age,” the release read in part.

Police also said additional guns were located in the vehicle.

The case remains under investigation.
