Upon arrival at the store, police found an employee out in front of the shop shouting, “He started running that way,” while looking toward southbound U.S. Highway 17-92, an arrest report states.

After searching around, police eventually found a man — later identified as Brendan Ogarro, 22 — a few blocks away, walking in front of the City Buffet along Live Oaks Boulevard, the report says.

The release shows that Ogarro “refused to comply” with officers’ commands, instead fleeing on foot.

However, one officer chased after him and managed to catch Ogarro, investigators said. Officers reported they found a pink hoodie and a Rugar EC9S in Ogarro’s jeans.

While he was being secured, Ogarro repeatedly stated, “I need my gun back,” the arrest report reads.

Police said Ogarro was taken to the hospital due to a “road rash” he suffered, and while there, he told detectives that he had gone to Shoot Straight from his house “because I was bored” and had planned to purchase the Rugar.

In addition, while Ogarro had initially identified himself as “Pedro,” he later told fire officials his real name, the arrest report says.

The firearm was ultimately returned to Shoot Straight.

Ogarro faces charges of grand theft of a firearm, giving false identification to law enforcement, and two counts of resisting officers without violence. He is held on bond of $4,000.
