Shark bite leaves beachgoer hospitalized at New Smyrna Beach

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – A beachgoer was bitten by a shark at New Smyrna Beach on Thursday afternoon, leaving him in the hospital, according to the Volusia County Beach Safety.

In a release, VCBS officials announced that the beachgoer — a 21-year-old Ohio man visiting the area — was bitten on his right foot while playing football in “knee-deep water” near Flagler Avenue just before 4 p.m.

As a result, he was taken to the hospital for treatment, though the release shows his injuries aren’t life-threatening.
