DeBARY, Fla. – As journalists, we are often the eyes and ears of the community. Recently, a concerned viewer reached out to me about a dangerous intersection in DeBary — the crossing of Sanford Avenue and Shell Road.
The viewer, who has lived in the area for several years, expressed deep concern over the growing number of accidents at this particular intersection.
According to the viewer, this crossroads has become a hotspot for crashes, with near-misses and collisions occurring frequently. The lack of a four-way stop sign, they argue, is a significant factor contributing to these crashes.
“Every time I pass through that intersection, I hold my breath,” the viewer shared. “There have been way too many close calls and crashes, and it’s time something is done. I really think a four-way stop would make all the difference in improving safety.”

The resident is not alone in their concerns. Many local drivers have echoed similar frustrations over the years, calling for more significant measures to reduce the likelihood of accidents. While traffic signals and other solutions could be discussed by city officials, the viewer believes the first step should be installing a four-way stop, which they think would immediately calm traffic and increase awareness among drivers.
Given the gravity of the situation, I have decided to take a closer look at this intersection myself. We will visit Sanford Avenue and Shell Road today and livestream my observations from Results-1 on ClickOrlando.com, News6+, the News 6 App and our YouTube channel.
