DELAND, Fla. – Residents in DeLand, including Julian and Jayne Kepler, are dealing with significant flooding after Hurricane Milton caused water levels to rise in the area.
The Keplers, who live near the St. Johns River, reached out to News 6, describing the worsening situation as water continues to surround their home.
We attempted to visit the Kepler residence, but were unable to reach them in person due to flooded roadways. The couple instead shared their experience via Zoom.
“Our road is okay back here, but we can’t get to it,” Julian Kepler said. “The water is too deep. Our cars are covered, way over the hoods.”

The Keplers shared photos of their flooded property and expressed concerns about the standing water.
“I’m afraid we could catch something,” Jayne Kepler said. “It’s just terrible.”
The Keplers they have been unable to leave their home since Hurricane Milton hit the area.
“It’s a lot,” Jayne Kepler said.
Living near the St. Johns River, the couple saw the water rise immediately following the hurricane. It has only continued to rise, leaving them isolated and worried about running out of supplies.
“I’m running out of food, I’m running out of diesel,” Julian Kepler said.
News 6 meteorologist Jonathan Kegges said that Hurricane Milton’s impact caused the St. Johns River to rise, exacerbating the flooding in the area.
The Keplers, who have lived in DeLand for many years, said they have never experienced flooding this severe.
“If I’m being honest, it’s like they forgot us,” Julian Kepler said. “It’s sad. I mean, this is my home. I’m from here.”
As flooding persists, the Keplers and other residents in the area continue to hope for relief as they navigate the challenges left behind by Hurricane Milton.
