MELBOURNE, Fla. – In Brevard County, there are parks that host some events, but the tourism council says there’s no space for larger events like a fairgrounds can host.
But that’s about to change on 50 acres near Wickham and Sarno roads in Melbourne.

That’s where the Brevard Renaissance Fair moved to this year.
Now, Mayor Paul Alfrey said that even more fun is coming in the future.
“This is a win-win for everybody in Brevard, Melbourne, everywhere,” the mayor told the Tourism Development Council at its meeting on Wednesday.
On Friday, the mayor talked to News 6 reporter James Sparvero about the TDC approving the fairgrounds.
“We don’t have that here in South Brevard that we can have large events,” he said. “Over time, when events got larger like Runaway Country and others, they have to move out of the area because they’re in a park and they outgrow a park.”
Mayor Alfrey addressed the concerns of people who attended the Renaissance fair and complained about traffic or the property’s location next to the county’s landfill.
“There wasn’t an issue,” Alfrey said about any stench. “That landfill is closing, so the landfill soon will no longer be there.”
The mayor went on to say a new entrance to the property will be created for the fairgrounds that will be on Sarno.
The current entrance is on a side street, New York Avenue.
“So I agree with them on the traffic, but all that will be resolved,” Alfrey said.
When asked which events would be held at the fairgrounds and when, the mayor mentioned Oktoberfest, as well as Christmas and holiday events.
“The property has a lot of potential, so I’m hoping to get this thing done here in the next four to six months,” he said.
As a bonus of building the fairgrounds, the mayor said that when big events aren’t happening, the land will be used for a firefighter training facility.
