Cold weather shelters open across Central Florida. Here’s where

County-by-county list of shelters

ORLANDO, Fla. – Counties across Central Florida opened shelters as historic wind chills arrived in the region.

Tuesday morning lows were in the 30s and 40s, with wind chills dropping to the 20s and 30s in many spots.

Below is a list of shelters that have opened in Central Florida because of the cold weather.

BREVARD COUNTY

Matthew’s Hope in Brevard County is opening a cold-weather shelter at its Cocoa location starting at 4 p.m. for anyone in the community who needs to get out of the cold.

The location Matthew’s Hope Brevard, 825 Forrest Avenue, Cocoa 32922.

Transport buses will pick up passengers throughout the service area starting at 3:30 p.m.

Matthew’s Hope is in need of donations to help its clients over the next two days, including food, paper goods, clothes and bedding. A full list can be found on their Facebook page.

Donations can be dropped by Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, 8 a.m. to Noon, or by appointment: 407.905.9500 (ext. 2)

Lifepointe Ministries in Titusville is also opening a cold weather shelter for Monday and Tuesday.

The shelter will be at the Titusville Civic Center at 4220 South Hopkins Ave.

Doors open on Monday at 9 p.m. Dinner will also be served at 6:30 p.m.

Pets are welcome, but they must be crated and will be housed separately.

FLAGLER COUNTY

Officials in Flagler County said The Sheltering Tree will open its cold-weather shelter on Monday evening at the Rock Transformation Center (formerly Church on the Rock). The shelter located at 2200 North State St. is open for anyone who is without heat.

The county will provide bus transportation along two routes, following the schedules below:

East side of the county

  • Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General), 3:30 p.m.
  • McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.
  • Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree Parking lot, 4:30 p.m.
  • Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, 4:45 p.m.

West side of the county

  • Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
  • Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Boulevard, 4:30 p.m.
  • Bridges United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine Street, 4:30 p.m. (listed as the same pick-up time because of the close proximity)

LAKE COUNTY

Lake County will activate a shelter at LifePointe Church, located at 3551 East Orange Avenue, Eustis, on Monday and Tuesday. The shelter will be open at 5 p.m. on each day and will close at 7 a.m. each day.

The county will determine the duration of operations based on weather conditions and will provide updates as needed.

Lake County Transit will provide free transportation to individuals who desire to travel to or from a Lake County Emergency Management-designated cold weather shelter. Services will be available via a fixed route (LakeXpress), paratransit (Lake County Connection), and a cold-weather shelter shuttle.

MARION COUNTY

The Salvation Army in Marion County is opening extra shelter space in Ocala to help people escape the cold.

The Salvation Army Center of Hope check-in time is open at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 5 p.m.

The shelter is located at 320 NW 1st Ave. in Ocala.

ORANGE COUNTY

Orange County is opening two warming centers at 5 p.m. on Monday. It will close at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

The shelters are located at:

  • Barnett Park Recreation Center Gym: 4801 W Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32808
  • Goldenrod Recreation Center/Goldenrod Park: 4863 N Goldenrod RD, Winter Park, FL 32792

Pets are welcome at the warming centers, as long as owners bring food and carriers.

LYNX buses will provide free transportation for anyone going to a shelter. Just let the driver know.

In addition, three homeless shelters are also having extended capacity.

  • Coalition for the Homeless: 18 N Terry Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801
  • The Salvation Army Orlando (Men Only): 624 Lexington Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801
  • Orlando Union Rescue Mission: 3300 West Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32805

Matthew’s Hope in Orange County is opening a cold-weather shelter at its Winter Garden location starting at 4 p.m. for anyone in the community who needs to get out of the cold.

The location Matthew’s Hope, 611 Business Park Blvd., Winter Garden 34787.

Transport buses will pick up passengers throughout the service area starting at 3:30 p.m.

OSCEOLA COUNTY

Three cold weather shelters are opening in Osceola County on Monday evening.

The following locations will open at 6 p.m.:

  • First United Methodist Church St. Cloud (1000 Ohio Avenue, St. Cloud)
  • Iglesia Del Nazareno Casa De Vida (2367 Fortune Road, Kissimmee)
  • Poinciana Christian Church (3181 Pleasant Hill Road, Kissimmee)

LYNX buses will transport people to shelters at no cost, just let the driver know.

In addition, pets can be housed at Osceola Animal Services temporarily, provided they are in a carrier.

People can sign up for alerts on their phone by texting ‘COLDWEATHER’ to 888777.

SEMINOLE COUNTY

Rescue Outreach Mission is opening an extended-capacity cold weather shelter for Monday night.

The facility is located at 1701 Historic Goldsboro Blvd., Sanford.

The group is hosting a winter coat drive. They need adult jackets, which can be dropped off at the shelter.

They also have Amazon wishlists of needs, which can be found on their Facebook page.

Also, if you wish to give money, all donations are being matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $60,000 right now. Donate on the Rescue Outreach Mission website.

VOLUSIA COUNTY

Neighborhood Center’s The Bridge will open as a cold weather shelter on the evenings of Monday, Nov. 10, and Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The shelter is located at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand and will welcome persons seeking refuge from the cold, including those without stable housing or an adequate source of heat.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. each night, and guests may remain until approximately 8 a.m. the following morning after breakfast is served. For more information about the cold weather shelter, contact The Neighborhood Center at 386-734-8120, ext. 601.
