BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of DUI manslaughter in a crash that killed a bicyclist in 2018, according to a news release.
Officials said that Glenn Brimmer was sentenced Nov. 20 for the March 2, 2018, crash that killed 66-year-old cyclist John Perrin in Cape Canaveral.

According to the release, Brimmer had been drinking at the Cocoa Beach Pier before driving his Hyundai Veloster north on S.R. A1A where he struck Perrin from behind.
A Brevard County jury convicted Brimmer in September based on evidence and testimony presented by Assistant State Attorneys Bernadette Serafinowicz and Greg Hansen.
According to the release, the crash occurred when Brimmer — who had been drinking at the Cocoa Beach Pier — drove his Hyundai Veloster north on S.R. A1A, fatally striking Perrin, 66, from behind.
Officials said the case took seven years to reach trial due to court closures during the COVID-19 pandemic and more than 40 motions filed by Brimmer’s defense team seeking to dismiss the case or suppress evidence. Appeals followed after those motions were denied.
Evidence presented at trial showed Brimmer’s blood-alcohol content was .23, nearly three times the legal limit in Florida.
Jurors also heard an audio recording of Brimmer’s field sobriety test, administered by Brevard County sheriff’s deputies.
In the recording, Brimmer is heard laughing and saying, “Let’s do it!” but then struggling to follow the deputies’ instructions.
Brimmer was also ordered to pay $750 to cover Perrin’s funeral expenses.
