Man arrested on first-degree murder charges

CLERMONT, Fla. – A Clermont man is behind bars, accused of killing another man at his home on May 20.

Officers said Kirby Smith shot and killed Michael Rodriguez last month.

Officers said Smith was detained the night of the shooting.

Detectives said he told them he acted in self-defense after a verbal argument earlier that day.

Detectives said they did not have enough evidence to make an arrest at the time.

Officers said an investigation led to a first-degree murder warrant for Smith, which was served Saturday.

Smith was arrested transported to the Lake County Jail on a first-degree murder charge.
