Fire destroys nearly half of Marion County commercial building, officials say

Multiple agencies respond to major business fire

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A business partially collapsed Sunday morning after a fire that required help from agencies across Marion County, according to Marion County Fire Rescue

MCFR says crews responded around 4 a.m. to the area of South Highway 25 in Weirsdale after multiple 911 calls.

Officials said they found a 25,000-square-foot commercial building with nearly half of it burning and flames coming through the roof. Firefighters immediately attacked the fire, but conditions intensified, and priorities shifted to protecting nearby homes and other properties.

Crews from at least seven other stations responded to help.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office assisted with traffic control, and Duke Energy responded after power lines were compromised.

The fire was under control around 5 a.m., and firefighters remained on scene to extinguish hot spots.

No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.
