Arson suspect shot by deputies, captured after chase on I-4 in Polk and Hillsborough counties, sheriff says
A 30-year old Lakeland man faces multiple charges after he attempted to start a house fire in Lakeland and then led deputies on a chase that made its way onto Interstate 4, closing parts of the highway on Sunday, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.
Arrest made after arson fire at Sanford library
SANFORD, Fla. – A man who admitted to starting a fire in the bathroom of a Sanford library was arrested on an arson charge Friday, according to the state fire marshal. Authorities said the fire was started on Wednesday inside a bathroom at the Seminole County Public Library. The library was temporarily closed and officials immediately suspected arson was involved. “During the conversation with the detective, Brinson admitted to setting the fire in the men’s bathroom at the library and was placed under arrest,” the state fire marshall told News 6. Brinson is charged with first-degree arson and is currently being held on no bond.
Victim burned in apparent arson in Orlando, police say
ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando police say one victim is recovering from burn injuries Tuesday following an arson fire. Officers got a call about the fire near 1300 W. One of those people suffered minor burns, according to the Orlando Police Department. Officers say the person who lit the fire is known in the area.
Port Orange arson suspect wanted on attempted murder charges, police say
VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. Port Orange police have obtained an arrest warrant for a man accused of intentionally setting a woman on fire and burning down a mobile home. Police and Port Orange Fire Rescue responded to the home at 5348 Landis Ave. on Thursday at 3:31 a.m. for a structure fire. As a result of the investigation, Port Orange Police Department detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Raymond J. Garneau, 51, of Port Orange. Police did not say what the relationship between the suspect and the victim was or if Garneau owned the mobile home. Garneau is wanted for attempted murder, arson of an occupied dwelling, felony domestic battery and deprivation of access to 911.
Palm Bay playground rebuilt after arson fire
PALM BAY, Fla. – The Twin Lakes neighborhood park that left parents and children heartbroken after it was burned to the ground last year has finally been rebuilt. The playground was rebuilt half a mile north at Goode Park on 1300 Bianca Drive and was opened to the public on Monday. A news release by the City of Palm Bay Parks and Recreation said that the move was due to the existing facilities at Goode Park. “We felt that moving the playground to Goode Park was a better choice because of the increased amenities at that location,” Fred Poppe, Palm Bay parks and recreation department director, said in the release. "The new location is close to restroom facilities, parking, a pavilion, more seating and more shade.”According to the release, the playground was paid for from insurance settlement funds received from the old playground being destroyed by arson.
