Wild Card Recap: The end of Brady in TB, historic Charger-ing & Daniel Jones sinks the Vikings
Dak Prescott and Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore really shined on Monday night, effectively ending Tom Brady’s time with the Buccaneers. He likely won’t find a home with the 49ers, who continue to get impressive performances from rookie QB Brock Purdy and an offense filled with playmakers. The Chargers blew a 27-0 lead to lose to the Jaguars, and it’s mostly the fault of their run game that has struggled all season. In “The Fraud Bowl”, the Vikings lived up to (bad) expectations but the Giants (and QB Daniel Jones) might have something special brewing. If nothing else, they’ve built an ecosystem that free agents will be eager to join this offseason.

Bowles struggled a bit more as Tampa Bay won just eight games to become the fourth division winner in NFL history with a losing record. Two of the previous three — the 2010 Seahawks (7-9) and 2014 Panthers (7-8-10) — won a playoff game, while Washington (7-9) lost to the Bucs in the 2020 playoffs. Two of those three matchups ended in splits in the regular season with the Ravens and Bengals, and Dolphins and Bills splitting their two games. San Francisco is the 13th team in the Super Bowl era to end the regular season on a winning streak of at least 10 games. Five of the teams lost their first playoff game: the 2019 Ravens, 2012 Broncos, 2009 Chargers, 2006 Chargers and 1993 Oilers.
wftv.comMiami QB Bridgewater leaves with finger injury vs. Patriots
— (AP) — Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater left Miami's matchup against the New England Patriots with a right finger injury. Bridgewater made the start Sunday in place of Tua Tagovailoa, who is in the concussion protocol for the second time this season. Miami led 14-10 in the third quarter and faced third-and-15 when Bridgewater threw into traffic looking for receiver Trent Sherfield. Bridgewater entered the medical tent for evaluation after the interception and was replaced by Skylar Thompson for Miami’s next series. Bridgewater was 12 of 19 for 161 yards and a touchdown pass.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard was heralded by quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a "hall of famer" this off-season. The wideout made a legendary block in a Week 16 win over the Dolphins where he took down three defenders at the same time. Lazard wasn’t flagged, but was reportedly fined $10,609 for taunting according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. The team also praised the block and celebration in a feature about Lazard that was published to Packers.com four days later. "That's a huge play and a huge block that Allen had on that play.
wftv.comMcDaniel: Tua suffered concussion in loss to Packers
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — (AP) — Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sustained his second concussion of the season in last week’s loss to Green Bay, Miami coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Wednesday. Tagovailoa met with doctors Monday afternoon and was placed into the NFL's concussion protocol after reporting symptoms. He entered the concussion protocol in September after taking a scary hit that knocked him unconscious during Miami’s game at Cincinnati. He appeared to show concussion symptoms but was evaluated and stayed in the game, drawing criticisms of why he was allowed to return. The NFL later changed its concussion protocol to mandate that any player who shows possible concussion symptoms — including a lack of balance or stability — sit out the remainder of a game.
wftv.comDolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa in concussion protocol again
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — (AP) — Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has returned to the NFL's concussion protocol, Miami coach Mike McDaniel said Monday. Tagovailoa met with doctors a day after the Dolphins' 26-20 loss to Green Bay and was experiencing concussion symptoms. It is the second time this season that Tagovailoa has been in the concussion protocol. Tagovailoa took another hard hit four days before the Cincinnati game during a win over Buffalo. The NFL later changed its concussion protocol to mandate that any player who shows possible concussion symptoms — including a lack of balance or stability — sit out the remainder of a game.
wftv.comDolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa in concussion protocol again
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has returned to the NFL's concussion protocol, Miami coach Mike McDaniel said Monday. Tagovailoa met with doctors a day after the Dolphins' 26-20 loss to Green Bay and was experiencing concussion symptoms. Teddy Bridgewater is expected to get most of the first-team reps in practice this week, but McDaniel said it is too early to name a starter for Miami's game at New England on Sunday.
news.yahoo.comPlayoff hopes for Packers, Dolphins on diverging paths
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — (AP) — The Packers, beneficiaries of results from Christmas Eve games, did their part by beating the Dolphins 26-20 on Sunday. "I don’t think we’ve struggled with confidence but definitely haven’t had a lot of believers outside of the locker room, I don't think, so maybe this will give us a couple on the bandwagon,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “We’ve just to go win,” said Packers defensive back Rasul Douglas, whose final interception of Tagovailoa under two minutes sealed the win. But the Dolphins also have benefited from others' losses: Division rival New England (7-8) has lost two straight and the New York Jets (7-8) are on a four-game slide. I don’t think it’s a time for us to blink.
wftv.comHerbert, short-handed defense lead Chargers past Fins 23-17
INGLEWOOD, Calif. — (AP) — Justin Herbert threw for 367 yards and a touchdown and a short-handed Chargers defense got the best of the Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa as Los Angeles beat Miami 23-17 on Sunday night. The Chargers (7-6) moved into position for the final AFC playoff berth, ahead of the New York Jets. The Chargers held Miami to 219 yards despite not having safety Derwin James, cornerback Bryce Callahan and defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day because of injuries. Cameron Dicker kicked three field goals, including one from 29-yards that gave the Chargers a 23-14 advantage with 2:40 remaining. On second-and-4 from the Miami 41, Wilson fumbled while tackled by Chargers safety Alohi Gilman during a 6-yard gain.

wftv.comNFL scoring down to lowest level since 2010 at halfway point
Halfway through the 2022 season it appears NFL defenses have finally started catching up. The 21.8 points per game average through nine weeks is the lowest at this stage of the season since 2010, when teams averaged 21.7 points per game. Scoring is down a staggering 3.5 points per game from this point two years ago when offenses peaked in partly empty stadiums due to the pandemic, and 1.6 points per game from last season. There have also been only nine games this season when the losing team scored at least 30, down from 21 at this point in 2020. The average point differential per game of 9.4 points is the lowest through nine weeks in the Super Bowl era.

He's carried the ball 63 times for 310 yards, good for 4.9 yards a pop, with eight catches and a score layered on top. There was never anything wrong with Chase as an individual, they just needed to diversify his route portfolio a bit while chasing the big plays. They cannot expect Carter to offer the same juice and big plays that Hall brought to the table. They’ll just straight up need the passing game to play better to continue winning. The passing game lacks a counterpunch with Amari Cooper being extremely volatile based on where the game is played.
wftv.comTua, Dolphins survive scoreless 2nd half to beat Steelers
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — (AP) — Tua Tagovailoa got the Dolphins off to a fast start in his return from a concussion, and Miami held on throughout a scoreless second half to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-10 on Sunday night. The Dolphins (4-3) snapped a three-game skid that began on Sept. 29, when Tagovailoa was concussed in a loss at Cincinnati. But the Dolphins intercepted rookie Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett twice in the closing minutes to seal it. The Dolphins punted again and Pickett drove the Steelers to the Miami 25 with 25 seconds left. Tagovailoa finished 21 of 35 for 261 yards and an 8-yard touchdown pass to Raheem Mostert on the Dolphins’ opening drive.
wftv.comDolphins' Bridgewater still in concussion protocol
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — (AP) — Dolphins quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is still showing no concussion symptoms after a hit against the Jets on Sunday caused him to leave the game, but he remains in the concussion protocol after the NFL's revised concussion rules. Although there is no definitive timeframe for his return, McDaniel said the earliest Bridgewater could return to practice would be Thursday. Starter Tua Tagovailoa is still in the concussion protocol and is “not ready to take the step to do football stuff,” McDaniel said. Bridgewater’s perceived stumble triggered the “ataxia” term, causing him to immediately be put in the concussion protocol. He was stretchered off the field and taken to a hospital and remains in the concussion protocol.
wftv.comJets run past Dolphins 40-17, snap 12-game skid vs. AFC East
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — (AP) — New York got a safety on Miami's first offensive play, Michael Carter scored on a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs and the Jets ran past the Dolphins 40-17 on Sunday to snap a 12-game skid against AFC East opponents. That came four days after Tagovailoa took a hit against Buffalo that caused him to slam to the ground. And the Jets took advantage with a sudden scoring surge. Jets rookie DE Jermaine Johnson was carted to the locker room in the third quarter with an ankle injury. MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — (AP) — Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been ruled out for Sunday’s game at the New York Jets. The additional MRI that Tagovailoa underwent Friday afternoon came back clean, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Monday. McDaniel said he still does not have a timeline of Tagovailoa’s return, or whether the team will place him on injured reserve. wftv.comDolphins' Tagovailoa injures head, stumbles, returns anyway
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — (AP) — Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa briefly left Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, returning despite appearing to be disoriented by a head injury. Tagovailoa hit his head on the turf and missed the Dolphins' last three offensive snaps of the first half, then was back on the field for the start of the second half after evaluation for what the team announced as a head injury. Tagovailoa was facing a third-and-3 play from the Miami 21 when he scrambled and found Jaylen Waddle for an 8-yard gain. wftv.comFantasy Football Week 2 Booms and Busts: Tua gets the last word in Baltimore
Because the Miami at Baltimore clash on Sunday looked like one of those college pinball games, not an NFL matchup. Tagovailoa threw for all six Miami touchdowns, capping a 469-yard passing jamboree. And like Tagovailoa, Jackson knew where to steer the ball — Rashod Bateman (4-108-1) and Mark Andrews (9-104-1) absorbed nearly two-thirds of the targets and were open all afternoon. Miami returns home next week for a showdown with Buffalo, one of the signature games on the slate. Baltimore renews its long-standing rivalry with the Patriots, who banged out an efficient win at Pittsburgh on Sunday.
wftv.comMiami's blitz still a bad memory for Jackson, Ravens
— (AP) — When Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens faced Miami in November, it was as discombobulated as they looked all season. “They just caught us off guard really," Jackson said. The aggressiveness of the Dolphins' Cover Zero scheme seemed to rattle the Ravens, who weren't able to make Miami pay with big plays. “Other teams did Zero, but it was just the way they did it that kind of affected us," Jackson said. Watching Jackson and the Ravens adjust to the blitz could have been a fascinating subplot to the second half of last season, but he didn’t have many chances.

Sunscreen — likely of the high SPF variety — will surely be packed among all the gear the Patriots will be bringing south for the trip. “It’s going to be great for guys to get acclimated to that heat,” Patriots defensive lineman Davon Godchaux, a former Dolphins player — who knows how different the conditions are in South Florida — told reporters in Foxborough last week.
