SANFORD, Fla. – Visit the Seminole Towne Center and empty stores mirror a trend at shopping centers and malls across the country: some shoppers are simply spent with brick-and mortar. Target’s “Deal Days” is back. The retailer’s sales event is scheduled for Oct. 13-14. A spokesperson for Target tells business insider the two-day sale includes digital deals on twice as many items compared to the year before. Instead, Walmart says they will be a part of its e-commerce fulfillment centers across the country. The company said it expects to see a spike in online shopping this year. Around the country, people who work for Bed Bath & Beyond will lose their jobs by the end of the year. Sixty-three stores, including one in Casselberry, are set to close as part of restructuring because of COVID-19. In July, the company said it would be closing about 200 stores over two years. According to CNN, this is the list of 63 store locations that will close by the end of the year. Amazon is one step closer to launching its drone delivery service in the United States. The Federal Aviation Administration gave the company an air carrier certificate Saturday, a must-have before any company can begin drone deliveries. With this certificate, Amazon says it will begin to test deliveries in some areas. The company, however, has not said when or where the tests will take place.

Walmart is getting ready to offer a new membership program to all shoppers. The retail giant announced Tuesday it will soon launch Walmart Plus. According to Walmart, customers will have the option of same-day deliveries on more than 160,000 items from groceries to tech and toys. Walmart Plus will also feature a new scan and go option for in-store shopping. Walmart Plus will cost $98 a year or $12.95 per month.

Payless is bouncing back. The discount shoe chain is planning to open 300 to 400 standalone stores across the U.S. over the next few years. You can find shoes for as low as about $10 a pair and the company knows saving money is really important to people right now. Payless said its website will reopen for business on TuesdayBut the first new store is set to open in November in Miami, where the company's new headquarters are. Then 30 to 45 stores will open up early next year in Texas and other border states.

Amazon could be moving into your local mall. Thats right, the e-commerce giant is in talks with Simon Property Group to take over closed department stores. The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday Amazon would convert former or current JC Penney and Sears stores into distribution hubs. Amazon would get more space closer to where customers live which would speed up shipping times. Mall owners would get a cash-rich tenant to replace their bankrupt anchor stores.

CVS announced Thursday that it would be instituting a face-covering policy at all of its locations. Starting Monday all shoppers will be required to wear a face-covering while inside the store. CVS joins stores like Kroger, Kohls, Best Buy, Sams Club and Starbucks. This includes requiring that store employees wear face coverings and encouraging our customers to do so as well. In any community with state or local laws mandating the use of face coverings, weve made that very clear through signage and other reminders, Roberts explained.

Walmart is planning its own membership program. The retailer is reportedly close to launching a service similar to Amazon Prime. Walmart+ is set to be unveiled in July. Recode reports that a yearly subscription is $98 and includes same-day delivery, fuel discounts and other perks. Walmart has already been experimenting with one-day delivery in some areas.

Brooks Brothers said Wednesday that it will continue operations as it restructures and is looking to reopen shops that are not being closed permanently. The good thing about Brooks Brothers: Its a very strong brand," he said. Brooks Brothers' two-button suits were a favorite of President John F. Kennedy. Clark Cable wore Brooks Brothers and Jennifer Aniston appeared on the cover of GQ magazine wearing nothing but a red, white and blue Brooks Brothers tie.

Walmart is no longer selling "All Lives Matter" merchandise on its website. America’s largest retailer received backlash for T-shirts that featured variations of the “Black Lives Matter” slogan, including “All Lives Matter,” ”Blue Lives Matter,“ ”Irish Lives Matter,” and “Homeless Lives Matter.”Walmart says they are being sold by third-party sellers on its website. The retailer has since removed the “All Lives Matter” merchandise, but the other “lives matter” products are still available.

Remember those Tamagotchi virtual pets from the '90s that "lived" on electronic devices? They're coming back and pre-orders started Thursday. The new pets are called Tamagotchi on Wonder Garden. The virtual animals have modern graphics and the ability to connect to an app. And, these pets can travel the world, even if their owners are sheltering in place.

TJX Cos., the parent company of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and Homegoods, hopes to have all of its stores back open by the end of June, the company reported to the SEC on Thursday, according to NBC Boston. TJX closed stores in nine countries along with all of its online shopping sites, distribution centers and offices in mid-March as the coronavirus pandemic was starting to make waves in the U.S. Since May 2, TJX opened approximately 36% of its 4,500 stores worldwide, equating to 1,600 locations reopening as well as four e-commerce sites. The company now hopes to have everything back open by the end of June as it has “fully or partially reopened in 25 states,” NBC Boston reported.

Just days after filing for bankruptcy, JCPenney is now planning to close nearly 200 stores this year. The 118-year-old company has struggled to gain profits for years, but the company said the coronavirus pandemic caused sales to plummet. The retailer has 85,000 employees but hasn't said how many people will lose their jobs because of the closings. The company says next year an additional 50 stores will have to be closed. JCPenney is the fourth national retailer to file for bankruptcy just this month.

To adhere to social distancing guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic, Costco has recently taken steps to control the number of members in its warehouses at one time as it experiences surges in shopping. The company announced Wednesday, it is giving health care workers and first responders priority access to shop, allowing them to skip to the front of the line, according to its website. “Costco is temporarily allowing priority access to our warehouses for Costco members who are healthcare workers and first responders such as police officers, EMTs and firefighters,” company officials said on its website. To gain access to the front of the line, those specific workers only need to show their Costco membership card along with an ID to indicate their role and they can move to the front of the line. Publix announced Thursday that starting next week, it is adding senior shopping hours to all of its stores on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Customers 65 and older can go to a Publix on those two days from 7 to 8 a.m. and shop without being exposed to large crowds of people visiting grocery stores. “Publix is offering these expanded hours to better support our elder community,” a company official said in a statement on its website. Seniors will also be able to access the Publix Pharmacy during this time as well. Click here to see a full list of retailers offering senior hours.
