VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 22-year-old Deltona woman driving the wrong way on Interstate 4 in Volusia County crashed head-on into another car, killing the driver, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The fatal crash happened around 12:25 am. on I-4 east near the Dirksen Drive exit in Deltona, closing the interstate for several hours before reopening.

According to the FHP, the woman was driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra west in the eastbound lanes and struck a car driven by a 26-year-old Brazilian man, who was eastbound in the center lane of I-4 east. The man’s car ran off the road and struck a guardrail, according to an FHP crash report.
The man, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, the FHP said.
The Deltona woman and a passenger in the man’s car, a 24-year-old woman from Brazil, suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital, according to troopers. Both were wearing seat belts, the crash report stated.
It’s not known why or for how long the woman was driving the wrong way on I-4.
An investigation is ongoing.
