Crashes involving 15 vehicles cause chaos on I-4 in Volusia County

Crashes cover 2-mile stretch along I-4 west

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A series of six crashes involving 15 vehicles shut down Interstate 4 west in Volusia County Thursday night, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies and troopers said the crashes, which occurred around 5:40 p.m., cover a two-mile stretch along I-4 around mile marker 119.

Troopers described the six crashes as follows:

  1. Involved possibly four vehicles. Five people were taken to the hospital, including two trauma alerts — both of whom are stable at this time
  2. Involved a 2013 Hyundai Sonata and a 2005 Isuzu NPR. No one was hospitalized in this crash.
  3. Involved a 2016 Toyota Scion and a 2020 Toyota Camry. No one was hospitalized in this crash.
  4. Involved a 2004 Pontiac GTO, a 2009 Subaru Impreza and a 2016 Black Chevrolet Tahoe. The Tahoe driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  5. Involved a 2012 Toyota Scion and a 2018 Tesla Model 3. No one was hospitalized in this crash.
  6. Involved a FedEx truck and a 2018 Ford F-550. No one was hospitalized in this crash.
