VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A Volusia County deputy suffered minor injuries when he was clipped by a van that failed to move over as he worked a crash near DeLand, according to the sheriff’s office and Florida Highway Patrol.
The deputy was working an earlier crash on North Woodland Boulevard near Melodie Lane when he was hit, the sheriff’s office said on social media.
Around 2:02 a.m. Saturday, as the deputy stood on the yellow center line of North Woodland Boulevard, his right arm was struck by the left mirror of a 2004 Chevrolet Astro as it traveled southbound because its driver failed to move over for an emergency vehicle with its lights activated on the shoulder, troopers said.
“This deputy is OK, but PLEASE use this as a reminder to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles!” the sheriff’s office’s post read in part.

Body camera footage shows the deputy speaking to someone when a crashing sound happens. The deputy then yells “woah” multiple times before saying, “I just got hit by a car.”
FHP described the driver as a 38-year-old DeLand man who was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene. According to the post, troopers found the driver of the van at fault and he was issued “several citations.”
The deputy was evaluated and cleared at the hospital, officials said.
FHP is still investigating.
