VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 61-year-old Daytona Beach man was struck by a car and killed Friday night while crossing International Speedway Boulevard (U.S. 92), according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 7:10 p.m. on U.S. 92 near Red John Drive, troopers said.
According to an FHP crash report, a 2015 Acura TLX was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of U.S. 92, approaching Red John Drive, as the Daytona Beach man was walking south across U.S. 92. The Daytona Beach man entered the direct path of the Acura and was not in a marked crosswalk, troopers said.
As a result, the front of the Acura — driven by a 38-year-old man from New Jersey — struck the Daytona Beach man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the report states.
The New Jersey man was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene.
FHP is still investigating.
