Troopers said March was driving his Chevrolet Corvette behind a Jeep Wrangler traveling north on S.R. A1A, approaching Sandpiper Ridge Drive, when the Corvette attempted to pass the Jeep in a posted no-passing zone. The Corvette’s front right struck the left rear of the Jeep, causing the Wrangler to overturn and eject both the driver and a front-seat passenger.

The driver of the Jeep, a 72-year-old man from Findlay, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene. The front passenger, a 73-year-old woman from Ormond Beach, was flown to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach with life-threatening injuries. She later died on Thursday.

March was treated for minor injuries and initially taken to a hospital.

Troopers determined that March was “in actual physical control of, and operating a motor vehicle in a reckless manner (driving above the posted speed limit, while attempting to unlawfully pass another vehicle), and said reckless operation resulted in serious bodily injuries” and the death of the Jeep’s driver. The posted speed limit in the area is 45 mph, and the roadway is marked by double yellow lines designating a no-passing zone, the arrest report states.

March faces charges of vehicular manslaughter.
