ORLANDO, Fla. – A system in the Atlantic has developed into Tropical Storm Fred.
The tropical storm is still projected to trek toward Florida in the coming days.

The National Hurricane Center issued tropical storm warnings for the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. This is the sixth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.
Haiti and the southern Bahamas could get hit on Wednesday, and people in Florida were urged to pay attention as the official track shows the system as a tropical storm off the Tampa area Sunday morning.

More than a month has passed since the last Atlantic storm, Hurricane Elsa, but this time of summer is usually the season’s busiest.
At 11 p.m. Tuesday, the tropical storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph with higher gusts and was 45 miles south-southwest of Ponce Puerto Rico, according to officials.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Puerto Rico, including Culebra and Vieques, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic from the south coast from Punta Palenque east and on the north coast from Cabo Frances Viejo east.
A tropical storm watch is in effect for Saba and St. Eustatius, Dominican Republic on the north coast from Cabo Frances Viejo to the Dominican Republic/Haiti border and Haiti from the northern border with the Dominican Republic to Gonaives, the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas.
A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours. A tropical storm watch means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area.
