CONE, MODELS, RADAR: Tropical Storm Alex officially forms east of Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – Potential Tropical Cyclone One has officially developed into Tropical Storm Alex after moving over the Atlantic Ocean. While still disorganized, enough organization occurred overnight to become a tropical storm.

Here’s why the blob of heavy rain and wind was not named even though it brought tropical storm conditions to South Florida.

As of Sunday at 5 a.m., Alex was 270 miles East Northeast of Fort Pierce, Florida, traveling northeast at 22 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph with higher gusts. On the forecast track, the tropical storm is expected to pass near or just north of Bermuda Monday.

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the island of Bermuda.
