Blast of cold to return to Deep South, Florida

Severe weather possible for parts of Southeast Thursday

ORLANDO, Fla. – For the most part, winter has taken a break since its grand entrance of cold and snow leading up to Christmas. While this round of cold for the South won’t be nearly as significant as the pre-Christmas Arctic invasion, the plants will again require attention.

A strong cold front will push through parts of the Mississippi River Valley South Thursday, bringing with it the chance for a few strong storms.

Severe Weather Thursday

Parts of Alabama, Georgia and the western Carolinas will have the highest chance to see a few strong storms. Damaging wind will be the main threats, but a brief tornado will also be possible.

Future radar

The line of storms will weaken quickly as it moves southeast into Florida overnight.

The chill will blast in later Thursday for the Deep South with the core of this round of cold arriving in Florida Friday into Saturday. Most of the weekend will be well below average with highs in Central Florida Saturday only climbing into the mid 50s.

If you have sensitive vegetation it would be a good idea to cover them back up by Friday night.

A gradual warmup returns by the middle of next week.
