May heat wave: Hottest May ever in Central Florida

The month of May is almost over and parts of Central Florida are already the hottest on record — ever!

ORLANDO, Fl. – As May comes to an end, Central Florida has already seen its hottest May ever recorded. The lack of cold fronts and high-pressure systems near the peninsula have caused many cities to mark their hottest May in over a century.

The combination of above-average temperatures both day and night is why all our reporting stations across Central Florida has May as the hottest month ever on record in Orlando.

The average temperature soared nearly three degrees above the typical May temperatures, settling at 81.3 degrees Fahrenheit in Orlando, so far.

This notable change from the norm has made the month of May in Orlando the hottest on record since 1892.

Melbourne, Sanford and Leesburg will also wrap up the month of May being the hottest on record ever. Daytona Beach comes in second hottest.
