EUSTIS, Fla. – The city of Eustis said it experienced a 1,000-year rain event on Sunday after 19.7 inches of rain fell in a four-to-six hour period.
City of Eustis police, fire and public works crews worked to survey road conditions and secure hazardous right-of-ways.
Two streets are closed as a result of washouts from the flash flooding.
- Hazzard Avenue from Mary Street to Prescott Street
- Morningside Drive at the three-way intersection on Jasmine Street
Prescott Street has been restored and reopened by the City of Eustis Public Works Department.

The majority of ongoing closures are condensed to residential areas.
“Thank you to the Eustis Police Department, Eustis Fire Department and Eustis Public Works Department for their hard work throughout the night to keep Eustis safe," the city posted on Facebook. “We would also like to thank our neighboring agencies for their support during this event.”
A 1,000-year rain event is a statistical term for a weather situation that has a 0.1% chance of occurring in any given year, not that it will happen only once every thousand years.
