ORLANDO, Fla. – The second organized tropical system of the Atlantic Hurricane Season was designated at 11am Sunday morning. Tropical Depression Two is forecast to become Tropical Storm Bertha as it slowly moves west over the next few days. As this system continues to push away from Florida, it will help to drag dry air over the Bahamas and into the state by mid-week.
Tonight
Similar to last night, as tropical moisture wraps around the center of TD 2, a few isolated showers are expected to swing through Central Florida from time to time overnight tonight. Rain chances will hover around 20% overnight as lows drop down into the mid-upper 70s.
Monday
As TD 2 continues to slowly churn just off the west coast of Florida Monday, we will be close enough to tropical moisture to once again see off and on downpours moving from south to north. Very similar to Sunday, the day will not be a washout and the shower coverage will lean more towards hit-or-miss. Rain chances will top out at 40% in the afternoon. We will also be a bit on the breezy side with wind gusts reaching 20-25mph at times. Highs will hit the low 90s with “feels like” temperatures around 100ºF.
Week Ahead
As TD 2 continues to traverse westward, the southeast winds behind it will help to funnel much drier air into Central Florida. At the same time, a ridge of high pressure will be building in over the state. This combination will dry out our atmosphere and allow temperatures to climb. Rain chances drop down to 20% by mid-week with highs once again climbing into the mid 90s.
