Next tropical depression possible this week

Tracking Invest 95L and robust Tropical Wave.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center is tracking two areas of interest in the Atlantic Basin. Both of which have decent odds of development this week.

95L will quickly be absorbed by a cold front and launched into the northern Atlantic by mid-week.

The NHC has designated the area of showers and thunderstorms near Bermuda as Invest 95L. Development early in the week is possible with a short-lived tropical depression not out of the question before being absorbed by a frontal boundary and hurdled towards the northern Atlantic as the week rolls on.

The ECMWF shows the tropical wave developing once rolling off the African coast. Less Saharan Dust over the region will give it a better chance of developing.

We are also inching up development odds for a tropical wave that is about to roll off the West African coast. This wave is expected to emerge into the Atlantic waters on Monday. The NHC has bumped up the development potential of this wave to 50% as of Sunday night.

A break in hostile upper level winds will give the tropical wave off the African coast a better chance of development this week.

If this wave gets north of the Caribbean, it will enter a relatively favorable environment for further development. Upper-level wind shear is weakening over the Atlantic main development region. This will allow the thunderstorms to grow taller and not be sheared apart. On top of that, there will be a break in Saharan Dust over this area. Both combined give this wave a chance at development.

The system will likely curve out to sea if it survives, curving around the Bermuda High.
