ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Department of Education on Wednesday announced that schools in the state have been scored under a new grading scale.
The guidelines encompass 12 components, including student performance in core subjects, learning gains between years, graduation rates and college readiness. In all, districts can receive up to 1,200 points (100 points per component) — a total of 100%.

The new scale grades state schools on the following scores:

In 2024, FDOE officials announced that nearly two-thirds of schools earned an “A” or a “B,” up from 57% last year.
Less than 4% of schools earned a “D” or an “F,” down from 6% in 2023.
“This year’s school grades reflect Florida’s steadfast commitment to excellence in education,” Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. said. “Under Gov. Ron DeSantis’ leadership, we have continued to raise the bar for providing students with a quality education that suits their individual needs, and these school grades are proof positive that our approach is working.”
For Central Florida, Sumter County’s school district earned the highest grade, receiving an “A” with a 69%. Three other Central Florida school districts also received “A” grades for the 2023-2024 school year: Seminole, Brevard and Orange counties.
On the flip side, Marion and Polk counties’ school districts performed the worst in the region, getting “C” grades at 56%.
