DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A man is being treated at the hospital after he was shot in the head Sunday morning in Daytona Beach, according to police.

Officers responded around 7:45 a.m. to a shooting reported at 122 Madison Avenue, arriving to find the man shot and another person — so far described only as a male — who told police he had called 911 after shooting the victim, according to a news release shared on social media.

The alleged shooter said that the victim was acting agitated and had attacked him outside of the building, adding this led to a struggle during which his firearm discharged, the release states. The individual also suggested that the man could have been under the influence of an unknown substance at the time of the fighting, police said.

An investigation is ongoing and no charges are pending at the time of this report, according to the release.
