Man, 2 dogs found dead after fire in Volusia County

Firefighters respond to structure fire near Pierson

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A man and two dogs were found dead Sunday morning after a large structure fire near Pierson, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.

Firefighters responded around 8:30 a.m. to 481 N. Shell Harbor Road, where they put out the fire and found the man dead inside.

The sheriff’s office said the man was tentatively identified as a 69-year-old man who lived at the property. Two dead dogs were also found at the property.

The fire destroyed the property, and deputies say there are no “immediate indications of any suspicious circumstances.”

Investigators from the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations will determine the cause of the fire.
