Could the Atlantic wake up next week?

Forecast models are showing signs of life.

The European Model is showing signs of one wave organizing by the end of next week.
The peak of hurricane season is quickly approaching.

ORLANDO, Fla. – As the climatological peak of hurricane season approaches, the main development region off the coast of Africa is now a conga line of tropical waves rolling offshore.

Line of tropical waves over the Main development region of the Atlantic.

Thanks to strong wind shear and a large amount of Saharan Dust, the Atlantic has been closed for business for tropical development. However, models are hinting at a reawakening next week.

The European Model is showing signs of one wave organizing by the end of next week.

Global models are picking up on a wave rolling off of the West African coastline early next week and traversing westward.

The GFS model is showing the possibility of 2 waves becoming organized by late next week.

Environmental parameters look a little more favorable early next week, but the window for this wave to roll off the African coast is limited in order to find itself in the “sweet spot.” By the end of the weekend and into early next week, upper level wind shear over the Main Development Region will weaken.

A break in Saharan Dust off the African coast early next week leaves a small window of opportunity.

Additionally, on Monday there will be a brief break in the Saharan Dust before the next plume begins to push off the African coast. If the timing is just right, this wave will have a pathway for less dust and lower shear, giving it an opportunity for development by the end of next week.

The EPS model is showing a medium chance of a tropical depression forming off the African coast by the end of next week.

Models, like the European shown here, show a decent chance of at least a tropical depression by the end of next week. As of now, the NHC does is not spotlighting this area of the Atlantic.
